My main areas of research are Philosophy of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as Philosophy of Science more generally. I am also interested in the ethics of current and future use of AI systems, and in the Philosophy of Climate Science.<\/p>\n\n<p>My main focus is on basic notions in the cognitive sciences, such as representation, computation, and intelligence. Questions that I have been tackling include: <\/p>\n\n<p>&#8211; What are the best theories of representation and computation for the study of cognition and intelligence?<br\/>&#8211; What roles do imagination, analogy and abstraction play in our models of animal and artificial intelligence?<br\/>&#8211; What internal and external capacities and mechanisms are required for intelligent behavior?<br\/>&#8211; How should we characterize intelligent behavior to start with? <\/p>\n\n<p>I make use of tools and results from philosophy and science in trying to answer these and related questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Excellence Cluster Science of Intelligence, as well as at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, and at the Institute for Philosophy, Humboldt-Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin.
